The Santa Fe Vipassana Sangha sponsors a variety of classes to help our members develop and deepen their practice.
The sangha holds an introductory class on the practice of Insight Meditation many months of the year. Introduction to Insight Meditation includes Breath Meditation, Mindfulness, the Five Hindrances, and Lovingkindness meditation. The class is useful for anyone new to insight meditation, as well as anyone desiring a refresher class, or support for their practice. Classes usually begin on the first Tuesday of the month, and run for four consecutive weeks. No prior experience is necessary, no materials are required, and there is no fee for the course.
April – no class
May – Mary Powell and Joan Mitchell teach on 7, 14, 21, 28
These classes are held at the Mountain Cloud Zen Center in the Office/Library from 5:45 to 6:45 pm. After each class, students are encouraged to join the rest of the Sangha for each evening’s Dharma Talk or discussion. To inquire about the schedule or learn more about the class contact Joan Mitchell at: email@example.com, 983-2475 or Mary Powell at: firstname.lastname@example.org, 984-1285.
The Buddha frequently emphasized the importance of having like-minded friends, and engaging in conversations about the Buddhist teachings. Also, many sangha members and visitors have requested opportunities to get to know others. On community nights, a sangha member provides a short presentation on a topic related to the Buddha’s teachings, and then suggests questions to encourage small group discussions.

Over a three year period we will offer many of the core Buddhist teachings from our Vipassana tradition. Then the series will be repeated. Classes will meet on Tuesdays at Mountain Cloud Zen Center, usually from 5:45 to 6:45 PM. The classes are suitable for all levels from those new to practice to experienced students who wish to deepen their understanding. Teachings are presented, followed by time for discussion, and suggested practices and reflections for the coming week. These classes will be scheduled during months when there is no resident teacher and the Introduction to Insight Meditation Class is not being taught.
Mary Powell will be teaching about the Brahma Viharas in June. Here is more information about the Brahma Viharas class in June and the Brahma Vihara Phrases and Eight-fold Noble Path. Joan Mitchell will present the Five Hindrances in August. (More information to come.)
