One Day Retreat with Arinna Weisman: Sept 17

Arinna Weisman

One-Day Retreat

Saturday, September 17, 9:30 am – 4:30 pm

Silent Meditation & Dharma Talk

Tuesday, September 20, 6:30 - 8:30 pm

Mountain Cloud Zen Center, Santa Fe

Arinna Flyer

Santa Fe Vipassana Sangha is happy to welcome Arinna Weisman for a one-day retreat and dharma talk. Arinna will discuss the subject of fear: how we react to it, how it affects our lives, and how we can learn to deal more skillfully with this often difficult and seemingly ubiquitous emotion.

Chgyam Trungpa said “In order to experience fearlessness it is necessary to experience our fears.” The one day retreat is dedicated to creating a safe and loving space in which to build a relationship with both our personal and global fears. We will explore together how to turn towards our fears without being overwhelmed by them and without repressing them. Aung San Suu Ki invites us to live with our fears as ‘grace under pressure’. We will nurture this grace by acknowledging and honoring our vulnerability, dignity and caring. We will conclude the day with a short ceremony.

Join us at Mountain Cloud for the opportunity to attend a daylong retreat with Arinna on Saturday, September 17, from 9:30 am until 4:30 pm. Please bring your lunch to the retreat. Arinna will also give a dharma talk on Tuesday, September 20, from 6:30 until 8:30 pm. Contact Teri Hackler at terihack@earthlink.net or 982-0304 for more information.

Arinna Weisman has studied insight meditation since 1979 and has been teaching since 1989. Herroot teacher is Ruth Denison who was empowered by the great teacher U Bha Khin. She has alsostudied with Thich Nhat Hanh in the Zen tradition, Punjaji in the Advaita tradition and TsokneyRinpoche in the Dzogchen tradition. She is the founding teacher of Dhamma Dena Meditation Center (now Insight Meditation Center of the Pioneer Valley/Dhamma Dena). She is co-author of the book, A Beginner’s Guide to Insight Meditation. She teaches throughout the U.S. and Europe.

Eric Kolvig Low-cost Retreat: Sept 28-Oct 2

Great Peace
Five Day Residential Retreat with Eric Kolvig
September 28 through October 2, 2011
Mountain Cloud Zen Center

Link to Registration Info:
Eric Kolvig Retreat Info & Form

We can enjoy deeper and deeper kinds of peace through our practice of awareness and love: the peace of calm, tranquility and freedom from anxiety; the peace of equanimity, seeing and accepting what is real; and the “peace that passes all understanding,” knowing that we are whole and beyond separation. In this retreat we will explore it all.

Eric Kolvig, Ph.D. has been teaching in the Vipassana Buddhist tradition since 1985. He leads meditation retreats and gives public talks all around the US. Eric leads many retreats in the wilderness and is interested in the special value of spiritual practice in the natural world. He has a particular interest in “grassroots dharma”, building spiritual community in democratic, non-authoritarian ways. Eric has worked with many teachers but primarily with Joseph Goldstein and Sharon Salzberg, in the lineage of Mahasi Sayadaw of Burma, and also with Richard Clarke in the Zen lineage of Roshi Philip Kapleau. Eric lives in a rural intentional community in Northern New Mexico.

Mountain Cloud Zen Center (MCZC) is on the edge of Santa Fe and is surrounded by the juniper forest native to the area. While close to Santa Fe, MCZC is isolated and large enough to provide for the seclusion and quietness needed to support the practice.

The Retreat will begin at 9:00 am on Wednesday, September 28, and complete at noon on Sunday, October 2, 2011.

Marcia Rose Retreat Flyer

Marcia Rose is the founding and guiding teacher of The Mountain Hermitage and founding teacher of Taos Mountain Sangha. She has been studying and practicing Buddhist teachings and meditation with Asian and Western teachers since 1970, primarily in the Theravada-Vipassana (Path of the Elders) tradition. Her own teaching reflects a clear influence from the Burmese Mahasi Vipassana and the Pa-Auk Forest Monastery lineages. She has also studied and practiced in the Dzogchen Tibetan Buddhist tradition with Tulku Urgyen Rinpoche, Nyoshul Khen Rinpoche and Tsoknyi Rinpoche. Marcia was resident teacher for staff at the Insight Meditation Society (IMS) in Barre, MA from 1991-1995. She has been one of the teachers for the annual three month retreat at IMS and is currently a visiting teacher at the Forest Refuge in Barre, MA. Marcia also teaches Vipassana and Metta retreats in other US and international venues and is dedicated to offering these ancient and timeless teachings in ways that make them accessible and authentic for contemporary culture.

The Retreat

We will begin this 9 day retreat for experienced Dhamma students with the teachings and practice of Samatha/Concentration as it is taught by Venerable Pa Auk Sayadaw of Burma. After some days of developing and deepening concentration we will move into the teachings and practice of Vipassana/Insight… seeing and knowing things as they truly are through the development of a clear and precise mindful attention to body–mind phenomena. The retreat will include sitting and walking meditation with instructions, evening Dhamma talks and small group and individual practice interviews with the teacher. This retreat is for experienced Dhamma students who have sat at least two retreats of seven or more days.

Sangre de Cristo Center

The Sangre de Cristo Center located 12 miles northeast of Santa Fe is a facility of the De La Salle Christian Brothers nestled in the foothills of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. The 700 acre center is secluded, quiet and lends itself to the practice of silent meditation. The residential space at the Sangre de Cristo Center is private rooms with shared bathrooms. Meals will be simple and vegetarian.

Dana

Dana, an ancient Pali word meaning generosity, giving or gift, is central to the 2600 year old tradition of Buddhism. The teachings of the Buddha have been offered freely since the time of the Buddha. There is no way to put a price on the teachings of the truth as they are valuable beyond any fee one could set. The retreat fee covers only basic expenses and operating costs. The teacher offers the Buddhadhamma without any set fee or payment and is totally dependent on Dana—on the generosity of her students and benefactors—for the support of her daily life needs. There will be an opportunity for Yogis to generously offer their teachers recompense for their teachings at the retreat’s end.

Fee

The fee includes a single room and all meals. To accommodate more people our Sangha sets a fee range from which you may choose a fee according to your means. Because of a generous donation from a Sangha member, we are able to further reduce our fees below the actual cost. For this retreat the fee range is $500—$800. The actual cost to the Sangha is estimated to be $759.
A $200 deposit reserves your place in the retreat. The deposit is nonrefundable after December 1. There are a limited number of partial scholarships and deferred payment plans available. For information on scholarships and deferred payment plans, contact Rosemary McKittrick—her contact info is on the Registration Form.

There will be no provisions for part-time or non-residential attendees.

The Power of Presence: A Mindfulness and Metta Retreat

For questions, call 505-992-0607 or email kb100flowers@gmail.com

The power of presence unbinds the heart from suffering. Its gentle, penetrating focus sees through the fear and turbulence in the mind that clouds it’s natural sensitivity, wise understanding and love. This retreat will explore the interplay between mindfulness and the wholehearted attitude and concentrative power of metta: love. It will also include the Buddha’s teachings and practices related to the cultivation of  compassion, joy and equanimity. Seeing how these practices work together increases faith, confidence and trust in our human potential to live embodied, intentional lives dedicated to the greater good present in each moment.

Fees
The sliding scale fee for this retreat is $500-750. The fee covers the cost of your room and all of your meals. (The actual cost to the Sangha is $627. ) Please select the amount of fee that you are able to pay based on your financial resources. Partial scholarships and payment plans are available. A $200 deposit reserves a room. The deposit is included as part of the total fee. The remainder of the fee is due at registration Jan. 7

Weekend Option: Three Day Retreat January 7-9, 2011
For Sangha members unable to attend the full 10 days, there may be another option to sit DaeJa’s retreat. Space permitting, DaeJa has invited up to 7 yogis to sit a weekend retreat for the first 3 days. Participants will start the retreat with the 10 day retreatants on Friday evening, sit all day Saturday, and leave on Sunday afternoon or evening. Cost for the three days is $200. We will confirm that you will be able to attend by December 24. For questions, call Kit Brewer at 505-992-0607 or email kb100flowers@gmail.com

The daily schedule will include teachings and guidance in the practice, sitting and walking meditation, an afternoon optional discussion group, meetings with the teacher to discuss ones experience of the practice, and an evening dharma talk. With the exception of individual or group meetings with the teacher the retreat will be held in Noble Silence. This retreat is suitable for both beginning and experienced students. Registration is between 3PM and 5PM on Friday, January 7. The retreat runs from Friday evening through Sunday noon, Jan 7-16. Meals begin with dinner Jan 7 and end with breakfast on Jan 16.

Dana for the Teacher
Since the time of the Buddha, the teachings have been given freely because they are considered to be priceless. The teachers receive no other financial compensation.
