The Power of Presence: A Mindfulness and Metta Retreat

For questions, call 505-992-0607 or email kb100flowers@gmail.com

The power of presence unbinds the heart from suffering. Its gentle, penetrating focus sees through the fear and turbulence in the mind that clouds it’s natural sensitivity, wise understanding and love. This retreat will explore the interplay between mindfulness and the wholehearted attitude and concentrative power of metta: love. It will also include the Buddha’s teachings and practices related to the cultivation of  compassion, joy and equanimity. Seeing how these practices work together increases faith, confidence and trust in our human potential to live embodied, intentional lives dedicated to the greater good present in each moment.

Fees
The sliding scale fee for this retreat is $500-750. The fee covers the cost of your room and all of your meals. (The actual cost to the Sangha is $627. ) Please select the amount of fee that you are able to pay based on your financial resources. Partial scholarships and payment plans are available. A $200 deposit reserves a room. The deposit is included as part of the total fee. The remainder of the fee is due at registration Jan. 7

Weekend Option: Three Day Retreat January 7-9, 2011
For Sangha members unable to attend the full 10 days, there may be another option to sit DaeJa’s retreat. Space permitting, DaeJa has invited up to 7 yogis to sit a weekend retreat for the first 3 days. Participants will start the retreat with the 10 day retreatants on Friday evening, sit all day Saturday, and leave on Sunday afternoon or evening. Cost for the three days is $200. We will confirm that you will be able to attend by December 24. For questions, call Kit Brewer at 505-992-0607 or email kb100flowers@gmail.com

The Schedule
The daily schedule will include teachings and guidance in the practice, sitting and walking meditation, an afternoon optional discussion group, meetings with the teacher to discuss ones experience of the practice, and an evening dharma talk. With the exception of individual or group meetings with the teacher the retreat will be held in Noble Silence. This retreat is suitable for both beginning and experienced students. Registration is between 3PM and 5PM on Friday, January 7. The retreat runs from Friday evening through Sunday noon, Jan 7-16. Meals begin with dinner Jan 7 and end with breakfast on Jan 16.

Dana for the Teacher
Since the time of the Buddha, the teachings have been given freely because they are considered to be priceless. This 2500-year old tradition is sustained with the practice of dana, a Pali word meaning generosity, allowing yogi’s to generously offer their teachers recompense for their teaching at the retreat. The teachers receive no other financial compensation.
